There are two data stores in WHG, which can be searched independently: a union index and a database. Data uploaded to WHG is initially stored in a relational database, and records from all datasets flagged as "public" are searchable with the "Search Database" option above. When a dataset is accessioned, its records are added to a union index, where place records asserted as "closely matched" are grouped. The default scope of search is the union index.
